Hi, I have a 5 year old male beagle (fixed) who I think has developed separation anxiety. We recently relocated to NM from Illinois and it has been a big transition for us all. Whenever we leave the house, he pees & poops in the house and gets in to the garbage. He is also extremely upset when we get home. Not just excited to see us, he's howling and crying like we've been gone for days and we were only out an hour or so. We adopted him when he was 3. He's not crate trained but has always been well behaved and house trained. The garbage is an easy fix, I'll move it, but I sure could use some advice to help get him adjusted to our new home.
Our shar-pei, Bruno, has lately been not keeping his tail up & I'm concerned his health is failing. He used to always keep it raised. He seems happy & active & all other attitudes are the same. What could the reason be? Thank you
My dog does not like to drink water very much. I need some suggestions to get her to drink more. She will eat ice cubes that I put in the water. I thought it might get her to drink the water too but it does not.
Annie is a small Border Collie who came from rescue. The people in rescue thought she was about one year of age but my vet believes she is about three years of age based on the condition of her teeth.
She seems to be in excellent health and eats extremely well and urinates okay. She has never been interested in drinking water even on hot days. I used to add water to her food to make sure she gets enough water but I stopped doing it after a while. She drinks a little from time to time but does not seem comfortable and usually chokes or gags a little when she does drink some. She eats a homemade diet of meat and grains and vegetables and vitamins and supplements. The only other thing to mention is that she usually only has one bowel movement a day and the stool is pretty small although it looks nice and firm and full of bulk. She will pick ice cubes out of the water and eat them but does not drink much water even though I encourage her to do so. Someone suggested a pet water fountain but they are pretty expensive and I don't know if that is the answer either. Thanks for any suggestions you can give me.
My dog is a whote pure breed lab. He isnt fix as i am going to breed him down the line. He pees alot but drinks water alot as well. Not over the amount but does have a nice amount of water. The temp has been going up and down alot we came from Florida, but we now live in Chicago. was wondering if the weather changes are affecting him at all. As to the peeing alot.He pees alot more when people come in and out of the house as well but he can go all night long till the am and doesnt have to go out till the am. could it be from the weather and him not being fixed? Thanks alot for any advise you can give me
I have a nine-year old hunting dog whose coat has become harsh in recent years and whose tail has lost hair in patches. Otherwise, he seems pretty healthy and energetic. I feed him quality food, but it seems like he needs more oil or fat in his diet. Diagnosis please?
I have an 8 year old spaniel mix, and he can be a little over protective of me really when I was pregnant with my kids, never thought anything about it but now that he is getting older he seems to get agitated quickly and bothered. My oldest daughter was push on him and he tried to bite her and instead he scratched her hand instead of biting, then he got out of the yard and I chased him down only to have him growling and acting as though he was going to attack me. I know at times they can get cranky in older age, but should I worry enough to get rid of him I don't want to but again I have two small girls and if I cant trust him that's a very big problem. Is there something we can do to make him understand we are not out to hurt him or have him comfortable around us as he use to be. He has went to classes before to calm him down. Thanks so much!
I'll be making an appointment with you to bring in Mojo. He is about 7 years old and about 2 years ago started having very watery diarrhea (no blood) deposited in certain parts of the house where we normally often do not go. He also uses the litter boxes when he has more firm stools. We have multiple cats and 3 huge little boxes. No other cat has this issue.
He has been on prednisone and I believe methisazone with really no positive results. He is virtually impossible to pill or use liquid medicine.
Appreciate your thoughts prior to bringing him in to the good doctor.
i have a dashound/beagle mix 5 yrs.old, she hasn't gotten out of bed in 2 days, she is urinating and drinking water she ate a little something last night but when i take her out to pee she's not walking good and hardly moving. She is a very active dog and is a house dog who has no energy she feels warm and her nose is very dry, what may be the problem.
We picked up a stray mixed-breed dog a few days ago. We took her to the vet yesterday to get her checked up and make sure she was okay. She was given prednisone for flea allergies and we were told she would pee a lot, but in the two days we've had her she's only peed twice. Is there something wrong with her?
I adopted a kitten from the animal humane society about 3 months ago and she is 8 months old now. She has had 2 seizures in the past 4 days. They both lasted about a minute long and she foamed at the mouth the entire time. Her body shakes and it appears that she is completely unaware of what is happening. She snaps out of it right away as though nothing ever happened. I took her to the vet after the first one and the vet recommended I monitor her for a period of time because seizures in cats as so rare. She also recommended I bring her back for a full blood test if she experiences more seizures. How common are seizures in cats? It seemed to me that the vet was somewhat surprised that she had had a seizure. I do not have the money to get the blood tests right away, is there anything I need to be cautious of until I can get her the bood tests? Could she have epilepsy? Thank you for your help.
hi..my cat hasnt been using his litter box lately,,and tonight he peed in a garbage bag, and it had blood mixed with his urin..im worried. thanks
I have a 4 month old Jack-A-Bee named Tootsie. Last night, she got out of bed. She got into the kitchen and ate some leftover tacos (meat, sauce, cheese, Doritos). When I got home from work today she had vomited a lot, which I expected she would since she has never had table scraps. I cleaned her up and took her out where she refused to have a bowel movement (she has yet to do this since this morning and usually has 5-6 a day). She normally pees small amounts about every 1-2 hours. She just squatted on the floor and peed A LOT, I would say 300-400ml. Then as I was cleaning this up, she did the same thing with the same amount of urine (this was within 10 minutes). She always drinks a lot of water and eats small, frequent meals throughout the day. She is drinking about the same amount, but eating a little less than normal for her. She has had her first round of shots, and is supposed to get the 2nd round Saturday. Should I seek medical attention for her?
my dog is an 8-year old westie, and has been a fairly healthy one before this past week. lately, he's been extremely lethargic, not eating or drinking, and he's peed in the house (something he's NEVER EVER done before), just wondering what you may think is wrong?
i have a 9 year old female lab. for the past week she hasnt been eating well at all. she is drinking ALOT of water and she is very lethargic. she also is spotting when she lays down. it is a pinkish color.and she is licking herself alot. i think she may be in heat, but usually it is red in color.she has never "leaked" when she lays down like she has been. she seems to have a loss in energy and she is coughing. .not alot ..but frequent enough for concern. i did get her to eat some boiled chicken and rice.when she has went into heat in the past it hasnt quite been like this? any suggestions?
My 9 month old lab-pit mix as been really lethargic the past 3 weeks. I am also concerned because he has very little interest in his food, and drinks a ton of water. He also urinates a lot due to all the water he drinks. I haven't taken him to the vet yet because I thought he may just be adjusting to the new house we moved into 3 weeks ago, but I think he should be comfortable with the house by now. I looked up his symptoms and found that his symptoms are consistent with diabetes. I am just wondering what could possibly be causing him to be acting so strange.
We are interested in adopting a labrador puppy. The owner said the she is different from all the other pups from the litter. She is extremely calm and has coarse hair. Does this show signs of something particular? He says maybe the dog has down syndrome ..... I am wondering if this sounds familiar. She was of a litter of 10 and 1 passed away after birth.
my pet has been acting fine and drinking and eating well . then today he wont snuggle, or be bothered with me, he seems to want to be alone and doesnt wan to be bothered or snuggle,
I am leaving for vaction in a day and am concerned.
he usually is bothersom by meowing and begging for food alot now acting quite the opposite
My 9 year old cat started vomiting suddenly and constantly. He isn't eating or drinking. He is urinating, and has had a bm which is whole and brown. We have taken him to the vet and they have run extensive blood work. All is fine. They did xrays, there is no obstruction, but his tummy was full of gas (extended about 4 times its normal size. They were able to excise with a tube some of the gas.) The vet (and entire staff) had no clue as to what this is. They want to do exploratory surgery, but I find that way too invasive. We are trying to use steroids for the tummy. He is a little more active but still won't eat or drink. Do you have any idea what may be causing this? More over how long can we continue to just monitor him since he is not eating...we are hoping he will start any day. Our inclination is to put him down if he doesn't show marked improvement as we just don't think that it is not worth putting a cat through all this surgery they want to do. At the same time we want to safely give him enough time to respond to meds. Any ideas and/or suggestions would be appreciated.
I have an almost 8 year old blue heller, she had a seizure last night. This is the second one that she has had in the past few months, I have been reading on line about how sometimes it is from a vitamin/mineral dificiency, or something in the dog food. What do you think?
Hello Dr. Spohn, you have seen my dog Biggie at the Taylor Ranch Vet Clinic. I usually feed him 1/4 cup twice a day. I put hot water and carrots in his morning food and then he just eats dry in the afternoon. Lately, he has had no desire to eat in the afternoon. Sometimes he will eat if I handfeed him or mix hot water in with it. I am just wondering if I am spoiling him. If he doesn't eat, should I just let him skip that meal and not worry about it? Sometimes if he doesn't eat, he will throwup yellow. I am just thinking that he is hot. When I put his dinner down, he hides under the bed. He is still very active and drinking water and eating his breakfast. By the way, he is a Shih Tzu and he is 4 years old.
Thank You!
