My 10yr doberman died from bone cancer. We had his leg amputated to slow it, but it had gone to his lungs already. My 12yr Shepard Mix, Chelsea was diagnosed with the same cancer. We were going to have the tumor in her leg removed, but her heart was inlarged in the xray so we had an ultra sound done to make sure she was ok for the surgery..they found that the cancer was thru her spine and in lungs with the ultrasound. I was told to leave her leg as she would die soon from the cancer in her spine and lungs. Well...now it has consummed her leg and that is the only part that bothers her...my dobies cancer took over his lungs quickly and affected him fast...Chelsea who was suppose to have it in her lungs seems fine other than her leg...and was told she would die within weeks...it has been months and her leg is awful. I dread not having it removed. It seems to be the only thing bothering her. Again I asked my vet and was told she had very little time...that was 2 weeks ago...she runs, she eats, she acts normal except the leg. I know it is too late to remove the leg now as the tumor has gone above the shoulder and may be in her neck....Now...my doberman had no cancer in his lungs at first...just his hip...then 3 months later it was thru out his lungs and he had to be put down. Why would one small tumor in the leg grow faster than tumors thru out her lungs and spine???? I don't get that. I feel like she is suffering with this leg that could have been removed and she would have been fine. Could the tumors in her lungs and spine have stop growing due to the small one in her leg???? I want to know if I let her suffer with this leg for no reason. She is such a good dog and deserved better and I have other dogs that are old and I don't want to make the same mistake with them should they get the same cancer. Could an ultra sound be mis-read??? Thank you.
i have a 9 year old female lab. for the past week she hasnt been eating well at all. she is drinking ALOT of water and she is very lethargic. she also is spotting when she lays down. it is a pinkish color.and she is licking herself alot. i think she may be in heat, but usually it is red in color.she has never "leaked" when she lays down like she has been. she seems to have a loss in energy and she is coughing. .not alot ..but frequent enough for concern. i did get her to eat some boiled chicken and rice.when she has went into heat in the past it hasnt quite been like this? any suggestions?
